About Dateclub
A place to meet someone new in South Africa: for coffee, a hike, a braai or a date. Real people, close to you, and a way of starting a conversation that respects both people.
Why we made it
Most apps for meeting people are built to keep you on the app. The swiping is the product, and meeting someone is almost a side effect. We wanted the opposite: a calm place where you can see who is nearby, read what they wrote, and say hello. Then go and have the coffee. Where it goes from there is up to the two of you.
Dateclub is small, independent and South African. Distances are in kilometres, places are the suburbs and towns you know, and it works the same on a phone and on a computer. Everyone here is 18 or older.
How it works
- Real people only. Every photo is checked before anyone sees it, and a profile doesn't appear in New or Nearby without one. There are no bots and no made-up members to make the place look busy. There never will be.
- Nearby, not everywhere. You pick your suburb or town and how far you're willing to travel. Nearby shows you the people in that range who are looking for someone like you, and shows you to them. New shows everyone who has just joined, with how far away they are.
- No swiping games. You browse profiles and read them. If someone interests you, you write to them. There is no deck to get through and no score to keep.
- One opening message. Anyone can send you one message. They can't send another until you reply. If you're not interested, one tap hides it and they are never told.
- The Lounge. One shared room for small talk with everyone who's around. Every message is checked before it's shown, and nothing in it is kept longer than 30 days.
- No passwords. We email you a sign-in link and a six-digit code. There's nothing to remember and nothing to leak.
What we won't do
- We won't sell your details or show you adverts built from them. There are no advertising or tracking cookies here.
- We won't track where you are. We never ask for your phone's location. We only know the suburb or town you chose.
- We won't nag you. The only email we send, apart from sign-in links, is a note that you have an unread message. You can turn that off.
