Terms of use

• You are 18 or older. No exceptions. We remove accounts that aren't.
• You are one real person, here for yourself. One account each. No accounts for businesses, for someone else, or run by software.
• You're allowed to be here. You haven't been removed from Dateclub before, and nothing in the law stops you from using a dating site.

• Be who you say you are. Your first name or a nickname, your real age, and a recent photo that shows your face and is of you.
• Photos are checked before anyone sees them. One clear photo of you, on your own. No nudity, no group shots, no memes or drawings, no weapons, and no contact details or adverts in the picture. A photo that isn't approved isn't shown, and we'll tell you why.
• Names and bios are checked too. No swearing (mild words are fine), nothing sexual or hateful, and no phone numbers, links, social handles or adverts in your name, bio or work line. Text that isn't allowed isn't saved, and we'll tell you why.
• What you post stays yours. You give us permission to store it and show it to other members, which is the whole point, and only for as long as it is on Dateclub. We don't use it for anything else.
• Only post what is yours to post. Don't upload photos or text that belong to someone else, or that give away another person's private details.

• Harassment. Threats, insults, hate speech, sexual messages nobody asked for, or carrying on after someone has said no or stopped replying.
• Asking for money. In any form, for any reason: loans, emergencies, airtime, vouchers, investments, crypto.
• Selling or promoting anything. No adverts, escorting, paid content, recruiting, or sending people to other sites and apps.
• Pretending. Fake profiles, someone else's photos, lying about your age, or claiming to be from Dateclub.
• Anything involving children. Sexual content involving anyone under 18 is reported to the police, always.
• Anything illegal, including sharing intimate images of someone without their consent, and threatening to.
• Taking what isn't yours. Don't copy, scrape or collect other members' profiles or photos, or share their messages or details outside Dateclub without their permission.
• Breaking the site. No bots or scripts, no getting around limits, blocks or moderation, and no probing for security holes without asking us first.

• One opening message. You can send someone one message. You can write again once they reply. If they don't, leave it there.
• The Lounge is a shared room, and every message is checked before it is posted. Phone numbers, links and social handles aren't allowed in it. Messages that are rejected too often mean a 24-hour break from posting.
• There are daily limits on new conversations, photo uploads, reports, feedback and messages to Dateclub. They exist to stop spam and they are generous for everyone else.
• Report what you see. Reports are confidential. Don't use them to get at someone: false reports are themselves a reason to be removed.

We may reject or remove a photo or a Lounge message, pause your ability to post, or suspend or close an account that breaks these rules or puts other members at risk. For serious things (threats, scams, anything involving a child) that happens at once and without a warning, and we may report it to the police.

Some of these decisions are made by software first. If you think we got one wrong, email [email protected] and a person will look at it.

We check photos and moderate the Lounge, but we do not run background or criminal record checks, we do not verify anyone's identity, and we do not read direct messages. We can't promise that every member is who they say they are. You decide who to talk to and who to meet, and you are responsible for how you go about it. Please read the safety page before you meet anyone.

We also can't promise you'll meet someone. Nobody honest can.

Dateclub is free to use. If we add paid features, you'll see the price first and nothing will be charged unless you choose it.

You can delete your account at any time from Me → Delete my account, or from Me → Privacy & safety. It takes effect at once and removes what the privacy policy says it removes. If you only need a break, pausing your profile hides you without losing anything.

Dateclub is a small site. We work to keep it running, safe and accurate, but it is provided as it is: it may be unavailable at times, features may change, and we may have to close it, in which case we'll give members notice.

We are not responsible for what other members say or do, on Dateclub or off it. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the site. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act or any other law, or limits liability that the law says can't be limited.

These terms are governed by the law of South Africa. How we handle your information is set out in the privacy policy, which forms part of them.

When these terms change we update the date at the top. If a change matters, we'll tell members before it takes effect. Carrying on using Dateclub after that means you accept the new terms. Questions go to [email protected].
